Lacan beskriver (i sin tidiga essä om psykoanalys och språk, i Écrits) varför hans korta analyssessioner med klienter hade ett gott utfall och likaså i andra fall där han tycks ha dragit ut på sessionerna för att få fram ett visst perspektiv på sambandet mellan tal, sessionen, och tid*:

I would not have so much to say about it if I had not been convinced that, in experimenting with what have been called my short sessions, at a stage in my experience that is now concluded, I was able to bring to light in a certain male subject phantasies of anal pregnancy, as well as the dream of its resolution by Caesarean section, in a delaying of the end of the session where I would otherwise have had to go on listening to his speculations on the art of Dostoevsky.
