Sunn 0))) - and Jesse Sykes!

Collaborations in music can be interesting, indeed. I'm listening to Altar - a Sunn O))) & Boris record. That Sunn O))) and Boris would collaborate at some point is not that surprising, considering the fact that experimental drone/doom metal and experimental stoner metal are styles that go together fairly well. But what is really surprising about Altar is the guest vocals of alt-country singer Jesse Sykes (from Jesse Sykes & the Sweet hereafters). I love her band's two first records, Oh my girl and Reckless burning. The latest one is so-so. On "The Sinking belle (blue sheep)" she contributes with a vocal performance that does not stray far from what one is used to on her own productions. Hushed, drowsy & smokey singing. But it is interesting that even the music, which is dreamy, even containing god damn p-i-a-n-o! - does not radically differ from Sykes' usual style. That this is actually a Sunn O))) record blows me away.
